GIVING THE ARCHITECTURAL PROFESSION A NEW PERCEPTION THROUGH THE AMERICAN INSTITUTE OF ARCHITECTS

Many people have been perceiving the architectural profession negatively claiming that it is a dirty job. Others even have a perception that it is among the poor paying jobs. However, the American Institute of Architects has been working hard over the years to change this perception. The organisation under the leadership of its CEO and Executive Vice President, Robert Ivy has been teaching the public about all that the architectural industry entails making people see that they can change the areas they leave in and turn them into great pieces of art through the profession.

Robert Ivy took over leadership back in February 2011. This great architect studied at the Sewanee University of the South, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in English. He had a great interest in architecture, and this interest saw him join the Tulane University to study for a Master’s degree in Architecture. Before he got the privilege of leading the American Institute of Architects, Robert worked with various organizations which include the Architectural Records Company and the McGraw Hill Construction Media. In 2011, Robert Ivy managed to publish the Fay Jones: Architect, which is a book about architecture. In the piece, architects from different corners of the world can find important notes on architecture. The book had very good content such that The Library of North America rated it to be among the best pieces of architecture ever written. Any person who has read the piece admits that the author has great knowledge in the architectural field and this is not questionable. The American Institute of Architects (AIA) consists of a number of architects that work together to promote the architectural industry. Its headquarters are in Washington DC, USA. Together with individuals and architectural organizations, AIA has been improving the industry through educating the society on how they can attain government support to improve the construction of structures and different ways through which they can redevelop the community to make people see the profession in a positive manner. This has been the goal of the organization since its founding back in 1857.

The role that Robert Ivy plays in the profession is very important to both the organization and the society at large. This has seen him win several awards including the Management Excellence in McGraw Hill Award in 1998 and the Crain Award in 2009. He was also voted as the Master Architect. The recognition by the National Architecture Fraternity put Robert among other seven architects who had won the prize in the previous century. Robert is likely to win more wards in the coming years due to the role that he continues to play in the industry.
